Dr. Michael Goldbaum discusses current and developing treatments for wet macular degeneration at the Discovery Eye Foundation’s 2011 San Diego Vision Symposium.

Dr. Goldbaum received his MD in 1965 from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his ophthalmology training in 1969 with the U.S. Navy and in 1973 completed his Retina Fellowship at Cornell University at New York Hospital in Ithaca. In 1988 he also received an MS in medical informatics from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He is currently the director of the Retina Division and a Professor of Ophthalmology at the UCSD Shiley Eye Center. Respected worldwide, he has been a visiting professor at universities in China, Italy, Paraguay, Ukraine, as well as Stanford University and Columbia University in the US.

His practice focuses on the surgical and medical treatment of the retina and vitreous, macular degeneration, pediatric retina, and ocular tumors.

Dr. Goldbaum is currently conducting research in glaucoma informatics to improve glaucoma management. He is a member and regular presenter at the American Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology, among many other organizations.
