The Discovery Eye Foundation supports research, education and advocacy related to sight-threatening eye diseases and their treatments, improving the quality of life for patients and their families.


Our Researchers : A Winning Team

From the Morris S. Pynoos Eye Research Laboratory at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, UC Irvine School of Medicine, our scientists conduct innovative, ground-breaking research involving macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, keratoconus, diabetic retinopathy, ocular herpes, glaucoma, and other sight-robbing eye diseases.

Our History

Donors | Rita and Morris Pynoos Discovery Eye Foundation (DEF) was founded in 1970 by Rita and Morris Pynoos as The Discovery Fund after their son Jon was diagnosed with keratoconus.  Read more…

Ambassador of Vision

Tom Sullivan, Ambassador of Vision for the Discovery Eye Foundation (DEF). His life is a testament to courage and challenge.  Born 3 months premature, Tom was given too much oxygen in an incubator that saved his life but cost him his sight.  Sullivan’s achievements are remarkable despite the disability.  Read more…
