Dr. David Schanzlin discusses current and developing treatments for keratoconus at the Discovery Eye Foundation’s 2011 San Diego Vision Symposium.

Dr. Schanzlin completed his medical education and residency at the University of Chicago, followed by fellowships in cornea and external eye diseases at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California, San Francisco’s Proctor Foundation.

Recognized as an authority on refractive surgery, Dr. Schanzlin received the Jose I. Barraquer Award for significant contributions in the field of refractive surgery and exemplifying scientific dedication. He is a leader in the field of keratorefractive surgery for over 26 years, he has dedicated his career to the development of various surgical corrections for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He served as the worldwide lead investigator during the 13 years of development and clinical studies on Intacs, and is considered the world authority on this procedure.

He is Professor and Director of Keratorefractive Surgery at Shiley Eye Center, UCSD Department of Ophthalmology.
