Dr. Paul Tornambe discusses current and developing treatments for dry macular degeneration at the Discovery Eye Foundation’s 2011 San Diego Vision Symposium.

Dr. Tornambe received his MD from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, completed his ophthalmology residency at California Pacific Medical Center at Stanford Lane Hospital in San Francisco and completed the ophthalmology basic science courses at Stanford University. Dr. Tornambe completed a retina/vitreous medical and surgical research fellowship at Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Tornambeis director of the San Diego Retina Research Foundation, and donates his time to teach residents and fellows in both the Department of Ophthalmology and Department of Family Practice and Preventative Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

He has been a member of the volunteer clinical faculty there since 1980 and also served as a consultant to the US Department of Defense at Balboa Hospital in San Diego. Dr. Tornambe has been past president of the American Society of Retina Specialists, president of the San Diego County Ophthalmological Society, past program chair and founding member of the Vitreous Society, and is a member of the Retina Society, Macula Society, and the American Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Tornambe lectures worldwide on the topics of retinal detachment, macular degeneration, macular holes, vitrectomy surgery, and computerization of the medical office. He has an active medical and surgical practice and continues to work on new medical and surgical procedures in the areas of vitrectomy surgery, retinal detachment surgery, macular hole surgery, computer imaging techniques, and treatments for macular degeneration and diabetes.
